I am having some trouble. This just popped up.

1/2 of my pc's are working correctly, 1/2 are not.

When the user signs on, they are not scripting and they cannot see the server. Even if they do start-> run and type in \\server1

This is confusing me because nothing has changed.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

How many DCs do you have?

I would start with DNS as a source of potential problems. Make sure that your servers and clients are all configured to use internal DNS. In your DNS server configure your ISP servers in the Forwarders tab.

From a machine not working, what happens if you ping server1 by name? What happens if you ping it by IP address? Report back those results.

On your servers, make sure that on the WINS tab in TCP/IP settings that you have selected to use NetBIOS over TCP/IP.

I hope you find this post helpful.

More info:

it apprears after I add localdomain.com to the TCP/IP settings as the dns suffix it is working. I have not had to do this before.

Maybe this will offer a little more hint into what is going on. Thanks!

That indicates issues with DNS. Check the config as I posted above. You may also want to look at your DHCP scope options.

Ok, well I deleted my entire DNS server and recreated it. I also added a backup DNS on the second server (running 2 servers total). I also made it a regular DNS and not a Active Directory Intergrated DNS.

I reconfigured DHCP with option 44, WINS, along with DNS and name servers.

I remotely connected to one of the PC having the problem and it was able to script after that.

I am hoping this solved the problem. I am guessing my DNS server just lost its mind?

That is what it sounds like. I'd be interested to know if you would still have troubles if you converted back to AD Integrated mode.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark
