Clear Station Freeze

Our server is a 4.11 server which has a quirk of losing user connections (my boss won't let me upgrade it with a service pack yet). I went to the server console using the "clear station" command to get rid of connections it still thinks are there and it froze on me.

I know there's another screen on the console with connections listed where you can hit the delete key to clear connections and I've tried using that, but it also froze on me.

Now I can't down the server properly in an attempt to reboot it and restore connectivity. I hate to do a hard reboot (i.e., reset button or power button), but I don't see any alternatives.

Suggestions?

Hi Catadmin,

Since the console is locked on you, you have 2 options that I know of to down the server.

1. Do Ctrl + Alt + Esc, this will give you a prompt to down the server. But depending on how hard your server is locked, this may not always bring the server down.

2. The other option is to go to Novell's support site and download a utility called Fconsole.exe It runs on a workstation and will allow you to down the server remotely. This utility is good for all Novell version, not sure about 6, never tried it on 6.

If all else fails you can get the server into debugger mode and return to DOS from there. This is not quite as severe as shutting the server off but it's probably just as bad. To get into debugger mode, you will need to be an octopus (lol). You will need to have both Shift keys down while depressing the Alt + Esc keys at the same time. It usually takes a few attempts to get it into debugger more. Once into the debugger, type "Q" and enter. You are now prompted to go back to DOS.
