Cleaning Up Taskbar Notification

Is it possible for me to get rid of old icons that used to appear in my taskbar (next to the clock)

The place I want to get rid of some is when you go to "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" click on the "Customize" button next to "Notification Area" and there is a list of "Past Items" I have a whole bunch of things that have been uninstalled from my PC but are still listed in this area (just with a folder as an icon) is it possible to clean these up and get rid of things that are no longer installed on my PC?
