help!
i just cleaned out the database on brighstor 11 by purging and zero out the database by initilizing the ASTPSDAT folder.

now i can only assign media to the primary server, we have two distrbuted servers - - it seems like the distributed servers cant connect to the database.

here are the instructions i used from a previous post:

The best method is to do the following:
1.) Close all ARCserve programs (i.e. Manager, Server Admin)
2.) Stop ARCserve Database Engine Service
3.) Delete all files like *.CH? from the \ARCserve\database\ directory
4.) Start ARCserve Database Engine Service
5.) Start ARCserve Server Admin
6.) Select Database Engine tab
7.) Pull down the menue "Operation"
8.) Select "Initialize Database ..."
9.) Switch from "All Databases" to "The Database to be initialized"
10.) Select ONLY the Datbase "ASTPSDAT"
11.) Press the Initialize button

This should ZERO your 1.6GB Database. Each run of your Backup Job will fill this Database again with new records (if you use the Backup Job Option "Record Detail Information"), so be sure to limit the history days in ARCserve Server Admin Database Configuration to 8 or 15 days. You allways can scan a tape to list the sessions and merge back a pruned session into the database at any time (either from an old tape, or if you would need the content of the current tapes after initializing your ASTPSDAT).

any help appreciated.

I Assume you central database in on Primary server...
inisilizing ASTPSDAT shouldn't cause any problem ,
try to check the centeral database configuration on both priamry & distributed.

no central database setup..but thanks anyway.

Do you mean each SAN distributed server using it is local database?
If yes so why you are saying it is not able to connect to database it shouldn't be a problem I beleive.

regards

first let me say that ca support sucks...

each dist. server is using its own database..however i think they need to tie into the primary database somehow..

From Distributed are you able to see the tapes ?
you don't need to connect to primary database.

what is your pobelm exactly?are you facing problem while doing the backup?

ok..let me try to explain..

server 1 is the primary
server 2 and 3 are distributed..

server 1 2 and 3 can inventory and format tapes.

but server 1 is the only that will allow me to assign media to the media pool..
i can see the tapes on 1 2 and 3.
this happened when i cleaned the database and changed the primary from server 2 to server 1.

hope this helps!

This problem didn't happen becuase of cleaning the database but it happened becuase of changing Primary server from server 2 to 1?

follow up -
another fix , remove primary and distributed and rerun device config on primary - add primary and distributed back to server admin.
