I posted on exchange 2000 forum and this is really a Windows 2k issue sorry for the double post.

We were really busy this weekend and brought up a new domain on one sever and then brought up a new exhange 2000 server. We added the users mailboxes. The exchange server went down and we couldn't recover.

I did a clean install of windows 2000 server with the same name and it will not let us install a new exchange server.
Here is the error message:
The component "Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration Services" cannot be assigned the action "install" because:
A server object for this server "SERVERNAME" already exists in the Administrative Group " First Administrative Group". You must either reomve this server object before installing or run setup with the disaster recovery switch if you are attemping to recover this server.

Ok I have users all over me about logging in. Thanks for any help.

Go into Active Directory Users and Computers....

Expand the root domain...
Click "Computers"
Right-click on the computer name you wish to remove.
Click "Delete"

... wait a few minutes if you have multiple AD controllers to sync.

... That should do it.
