Hello....

I've taken over a network that is currently running Citrix MetaFrame 1.8 on Windows 2000 server. I have purchased a new Server and need to purchase and upgrade to Citrix XP (Presentation Server?)

Currently, there are users running VPN connections to our main building and running a Citrix remote desktop to run applications. Ideally I would really like to have these applications running through the web - eliminating VPN connections. Just simply being able to attach with an internet connection.

My questions are: What Citrix software do I need to do this, and is there anything else I need to deploy applications through the web? Can this be done?

Thanks in advance!

Look into Citrix Secure Gateway. It works great, and based on your above requirements, it will accomplish your goals. It provides an secure SSL connection to a public address from your users' remote sessions via IE. Setup is straight-forward and can be done in a day once you have the appropriate resources.

Requirements: SSL certificate(s), server(s) to act as CSG and Web server (Web interface or NFuse Classic) in DMZ, STA server for ticketing on internal network, talks to CSG and Web server.

Users love it because it is so easy to use, and they can use it from any PC with an internet connection.

Thank you! You're information is greatly appreciated.

One more question: Between the three versions of MetaFrame XP (Standard/Advanced/Enterprise) I would assume that Standard is completely fitting for one who will use only one server for approximately 30 to 40 connections? There are no other servers to load balance and our company is nowhere near the Enterprise level.

I'm hoping that Standard will meet my needs for only a single server and secure gateway. If we were to load balance in the future, would it be to our benefit to buy now?

Good question, but hard to tell. In my situation, users have come to depend on Citrix being able to provide them with lots of different applications from anywhere. Once your users get a taste of the possibilities...

How big is your company? Is there a potential to bring in more users from other areas? You may want to discuss future licensing upgrades with a Citrix reseller if it is a concern.
