Hello everyone,

For months now, our LaserJet 5L Xtra printer has been acting up. Characters will be missing and nothing I have tried so far has worked. This happens randomly...and almost every time we try printing with it.

I recently downloaded a new updated printer from HP's website, but have been reading that third-party printer drivers are NOT a good idea in Citrix? Would this even be a driver issue?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

- Matt.

Yes, third party drivers can be an issue.
Just install the LaserJet 5L driver from the win2k cdrom, and if needed map the clientside driver accordingly via the wtsuprnt.inf, or CMC printermapping.

We do have the LaserJet 5L driver installed already (says PCL next to it). Perhaps the driver isn't an issue after all and it is the printer itself.

I'll have to do some more research. I'm just not sure what would make random characters disappear when printing occurs.

Thanks.

If the driver says "HP LaserJet 5L PCL" then it's from HP. If it's just the "HP LaserJet 5L" then it's from the win2k cdrom. Preferably use the one from win2k cdrom.

Thanks. I'll try that.

Sorry if this sounds like a silly question, but I'm not sure what you mean by the "win2k cdrom". We do have our Citrix installation CD's as well as Novell Netware stuff. Our OS is also Windows NT 4.0 based. Is there something else we should be looking for as well?

If I was you I would use the wtsuprnt.inf file and map your HP LaserJet whatever it is to HP LaserJet 4. Getting a driver update nowadays for TSE is a day/nightmare. Unless you are doing some really afncy printing this should work. I am assuming it is an autocreated client printer. If it is a network printer then change the driver to HP LaserJet 4 or..... if required create a new printer and port and from TSE use a HPlaserJet 4 driver.
