I'm attemting to use a TCP/IP connection to connect to my server. I'm using the 7.1 version of the Citrix ICA client. When I attemt to connect the connection progress shows on the screen for a second and then disappears and closes down. I have reinstalled the client totally removing it from the registry. The problem remains after a reinstall. This is the second time on this machine it happened. Last time I formatted and reloaded the computer and it worked fine for about 3 months and now it has started again. Anyone have any ideas? Thank you.

I know exactly what this is, it is not picking up a permanant TS license, you may be out of licenses or have no TS license server available.

Do you have a TS license server
Are there enought TS licenses on it

I need to mention that I'm connecting to this server over the internet, it is not on my LAN. There are avaialable licenses on the server.
If it is a licensing issue then why would a format and reload of the machine fix the issue? Thanks.

Because you get a 90 day temporary license and the sid of the machine willl change. That is why, it was actually the three month bit that gave the game away, if you look in the event viewer of the citrix connections you will see failed to get license.

As silly as it may sound, I have seen spyware display this exact same problem with my Citrix clients.

Try running Adaware or something similiar on the computer that is having the issues.

I do not control the server this client connects to but I did call them and they assured me I wasn't getting a temp license and that their were licenses available. What is contained in the SID? I did install a new network card in the client (Win2k Pro) and I get the same result. I thought maybe the SID would contain the MAC address or something else related. I have 4 other machines on this network going through the same firewall and network hardware that do not have this problem. I'm not understanding why a format and reinstall of Windows fixes the problem but then it resurfaces in 2-3 months. Does anyone have a procedure to remove the client software, including registry entries? I have run both Spybot and AdAware and the machine is clean. It also has an updated AV program installed which doesn't find any viruses. Any more help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Make sure the user can write to the registry key:-

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Software
Microsoft
MSLicensing

If they can't, Citrix can't write a license to that key, alternatively, log onto the PC as the local administrator, connect to Citrix once you've logged into Citrix, log out, log out of the PC and log in as the user, then log into Citrix as the user, everything should work okay.

It's a client issue not a server....IMO!

Hi there what is the client os?
If you are vpn'ing in to remote network, there is a problem with WInXPsp2 and some vpn software.

If this sounds right, go to Windows Update and search for WIndows XP sp2 Loopback.
You should get a link to a hot fix and known microsft problem with XPsp2

Also you might like to ensure you have the server browser address configured in the ICA settings on the client and ensure you have always use server location protocol.

Hope this helps.

I have gone a step furthur. I tried connecting using the TS client instead of the Citrix client but I get the same result. I tried connecting to the web interface and when I do this I get the following error: "Licensing Protocol Error". At least I get an error message using the web client. The server guys tell me that they see the connection attempt and then it fails.

Is there anything in the event viewer? I'll bet there is.
