Dear All,

Due to an error the enable password was deleted from the configuration menu. It is impossible to log-on into the router from telnet, and from term either.

I read the documentations on Cisco web site to recover lost password. The first step is to break into the router trough terminal connection, and gain the ROmmon> prompt.
Unfortunately, even now it is almost impossible reach that prompt.

From my term software, I can see (9600 8-N-1) the startup procedure of the router, all the startup messages within the Term progs ( I tried: normal Hyperter win2000, Hyperterm private edition, Term progs of Cisco)

I tried to break into the router pushing the buttons written in the cisco site and in the previous messages.

I tried all the sequences accordly to the different software.

Alt-b --> Term software
Control-break --> Hyperterm & Hyperterm PE
control+space+pause --> Hyperterm & Hyperterm PE
control+pause+F6 --> Hyperterm & Hyperterm PE

I also tried to put the setting to 1200 8/N/1 and simulate the reset with the spacebar button pressed for 10-15 sec followed by a cycle: no results.

What can I do?

I tried to extract the smart-card and insert another one.
No results.

Some of you, would help me to solve that issue?

A friend of mine said that it is possible to break also thorugh the BRI port with some tone code. Do you know if it is really possible?

It is possible to send the router to CISCO to reset the configuration?

Thank you very much in advance.

Regards,

Robert

What I did when I cant use the break key.

I will use the hyperterm to connect to the router using the following settings:
1200 baud rate
No parity
8 data bits
1 stop bit
No flow control

Reset the Router using the switch at the back.

Press spacebar button for 10-15 sec.

Disconnect hyperterm.

Connect hypertem using the following setting
9600 baud rate
No parity
8 data bits
1 stop bit
No flow control

Should be able to get to the rommon1>

There is another way around this! You can make a 'break plug' using one RJ45 connector and two bits of wire taken from inside a cat 5 cable. You loop the first peice of wire round and connect one end to point 1 and the other end to point 3, the other piece of wire connects points 2 and 6 together.

Simply plug it into the router console port and restart the router. Wait 1 minute, then remove the plug and insert the console cable. You will see the rommon> prompt.

Its a very useful and simple tool to have in your laptop bag! ----

So tie up white-orange to white-green and orange to green. Is this correct? Thanks sunyasee, I'll give it a try.

I have had the best luck with TeraTerm software in this case. Just connect was you would in hyperterm (same settings) and press the break key on the keyboard in the first 10-15 seconds. This is freeware and has been a life saver.

I am trying and let you all know tomorrow.
Thanks for your kind reccomandation!!!!!!!!!!
Robert

Dear All,

First of all I would like to thank you Sunyasee, Jlente and angktwap for the suggestions.
I tried both Tera Term and the RJ45 "looped" but unfortunatelly it didn't work yet.

I'm copying the log of the TeraTerm during the start-up phase of the router, it might be usefull to debug the process.
I really don't know how to solve that issue.

I've another Cisco1600 without BRI port. May be usefull to solve the issue? Is there any jumper or something like this?

Any suggestion is really apreciated, thank you in advance.

Robert
