Hi,
I have a Cisco 837 K9 ADSL router at a remote site, where I am sat currently scratching my head! At head office we have a Cisco PIX 515R firewall. The router participates in site to site VPN with the PIX.
The connection at the remote site is a 512k ADSL connection and head office has 256k a leased line.
There have been continual VPN related problems since I set the router up at the remote site a couple of weeks ago. It was working when I left, but shortly afterwards the VPN connection became intermittent and slow to not working at all.
The router is showing the following message intermittently crypto-6-IKMP_MODE_FAILURE
rocessing of Quick mode failed with peer at x.x.x.x . I know this has something to do with when the two peers are negotiating the security association, but exactly what I am not sure.
I do have support on the PIX but the support companie's main Cisco bloke is away and I need to get this problem sorted and I'm a bit lost.
Are there any logs I should be checking on the router and PIX - and if so how do I do this - I am new to Cisco kit.
Users at the site can browse the internet so if the VPN link had never worked I would assume that there was some problem with the config here, however it has worked albeit intermittently therefore I can't see how it would be a config problem - I know the PIX is okay since we have another site connecting fine, and I have tried a different router and cabling at the remote site. I am wondering if there is a problem with the line itself, presumably if there is significant packet loss the VPN connection would fail even though browsing is still ok?
