cisco ip address dhcp

I am trying to connect my 3com(sharkfin)cable modem to my cisco 2514 router, running version 12.2 ios.
I have tried the following configuration from cisco's website.

ip address dhcp
ip address dhcp hostname host-name
ip address dhcp client-id ethernet 1
ip address dhcp client-id ethernet 1
hostname host-name

does anyone know how to get an ip from cable using dhcp on the ethernet interface.
really stumped as to what to do next
