Hello all,

I brought a cisco 831 router and I cannot configure it to my DSL modem from verizon for home usage. Can someone please help me with the configuration on how to configure it through the CLI. I just received my CCNA as associate but never worked with cisco routers before. I am willing to learn. Below is the following ip address to my DSL Router I tried and tried but I cannot get the router up and running it has 2 ethernet port and 4 fastethernet port.

Hello
Is the Access Point your's or Verizon. Please state the model if it's yours'.

the access point is verizons is the default dsl modem model is actiontec GT-704WG, in the back of the modem is port 1-4 and a RJ-11 telephone jack, from port 1 of the dsl modem i plug it into the fast ethernet 2 interface of the cisco router. before when i did not use the cisco 831 router my wireless was working fine, but now when i try connect it connects but i have no connectivity. Thank you

I'm not sure you can use an access point with an 813, since the fa ports are layer 2...no IP info can be passed.

Hello
So If I understood correctly!Your modem is a all-in-one.First try to unplug the router from the modem to see if the Wirless part works. If it works, try logging into the modem to see how the wirless port is configured bridging or SVI.

HELLO ALL THANK YOU FOR THE REPLY I GOT THE ROUTER AND ACCESSPOINT TO WORK, I JUST TYPE UP A ACCESS-LIST 2 PERMIT 192.160.1.0 0.0.0.255 AND I CAN GET TRAFFIC THROUGH MY WIRELESS AND MY LAN ROUTER THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP I REALLY APPRECIATED. ALSO HOW CAN I SETUP A FIREWALL FOR THE 831 LAN ROUTER ARE THERE CERTAIN COMMANDS TO TYPE IN SORRY IM NEW TO THIS.

Hello
Security is a difficult topic. In any case if the 831 can support SDM,it can be easily done with this lovely GUI.Cisco is really pushing this in their security courses because they know, it's difficult to use the IOS for these settings.
Most of the guys in this forum doesn't deal with security. You can check out the Cisco Systems: IOS Firewall forum for some tips.
Regards

They are all IP Inspect commands, and CBAC using the PAM database. Post a sh port-map. You may even be able to set up zones...post a sh ver as well. You may have TCP Intercept as well, but you cannot use this along with the firewall or CBAC.
