We have one client with hotel apartments and running a Cisco Call Manager which they want to replace with IP Office. They have Cisco 7970...7961...7906 and 7911 phones. Can we use these as SIP Extensions on IP Office? Is there any firmware required on the Cisco phones to make them SIP extensions?

I think the pain of converting the Cisco SCCP to SIP wont be worth it, plus they will lose a lot of their functionality.

Also, the IPO isnt really that great in hotel environments unless you really dont want to run it like a hotel phone system?

I did this once on a Mitel and i really think you should not do this.
You first need to find the SIP firmware and you need to have two files per phone for all the settings which need to be available by TFTP.
The phones itself are then just analog phones with no integration at all.

I suggest to not do this at all.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

You'd also need to get 3rd IP Endpoint licences which list at around USD170!

Indeed, if they can't afford new phones they can't afford a new system, unless they buy another Cisco.
If you use the Cisco phones I can almost guarantee you will have a p1ssed off customer that you will probably lose or want to ditch in the end :)

Although the new 7800 and 8800 sets from Cisco do one up the Avaya sets in my honest opinion....lol. Those old 7900 series look tired to me.
