We have a problem with our Cisco 7500 router. We are running version 11.2(21)P software on it. After a period of running the router - it drops packets and when you are on the console prompt the response becomes very lumpy. A reboot cures this problem until the next time.

Any ideas on what would cause this - what diagnostics can we perform? Is it the software version?

Thanks

It could be an overloaded router or an IOS bug. To find out, use "show proc cpu" and "show mem". If it is high value then the router is overloaded, find out the process which is holding most of the resources. Also check the interface outputs "show int"

If it is a bug, I think its time to upgrade it to atleast 12.0

Cheers,
Rajesh
