This is a server farm of about 130 linux servers. About 40 are on optical gigabit. Others (unknown amount) are on copper gigabit.

My client can't tell me for sure, but he thinks the model of the switch is a Cisco 5500. Is the 5500 capable of this? i have done some research and I can't imagine them being able to cram this many optical/copper ports into one of those things AND still connect another 80 or so 10/100 ports. I haven't seen the setup yet, so I am in the dark and trying to map out how this works before i go in there. Anybody know if a 5500 is capable of 50+ gigabit connections?

Also, I need to get a small form factor optical connector to hook into a netgear switch to add an additional 25 dual opterons to copper gigabit (netgear is a GS524T i think). Any ideas?

Client is incapable of logging into the switch to print out any diagnostics.

I doubt it is a 5500 , it doesn't have the backplane capacity to run that many gig ports , more than likely it is a Catalyst 6500 with a Sup2 or a 720 supervisor cards . Even for that box it would be pretty loaded but would probably handle it .

It is definatly not a 5500 it is probobly the ws-c6509 or a 6513
