I know this is a dumb question but I have to ask. I have the above switch with 48 ports and then there are 4 ports for fiber that have the numbers 45-48 does that mean I loose the four ports on the switch if I plug in fiber?

I admit I've never heard of this switch albeit I have heard of the old Aironet 4800 AP but this doesn't have builtin switch ports.

Anyway I would summise the last 4 ports on this switch are either dedicated fibre ports (in which case you lose the 4 ports to fibre regardless if you plug anything in them or not) or they may be "dual-purpose" which some of Cisco's much newer switches supports (like the 2960). Dual-purpose ports support either a copper or fibre connection.

Dual-purpose ports are instantly recognisable as they will have 2 physically different interfaces for the same port reference.

It was my mistake it is a cisco 4948.
