Hi,

I would like know if you have had CISCO 3524 XL with blown Capacitors ( near the power supply )on the Mother Board. I have had 4 out of 27 Switches that have Bulging or Blown caps. If you do know of one under what condition and why do they Pop. Could it be a design fault ?

Thanks

It's been recorded that motherboards of late are using poor quality parts that self destruct in short order. There is a guy on ebay who buys old boards and sells them fixed with new caps. I've also been told that this problem is showing up in other consumer equipment.

Over voltage is the number one killer.. but if the cap is of poor quality then even normal voltage could be enough to push it over the edge. The budge is the clue.. it's overheating and when it does the electroytic "boils" and the cap starts to expand. In the best case it goes BANG!! and sprays it's guts all over the board ;) Worse case it the case looks normal but it's a dead short and kills the card.
