If you configure your switch ports to Full Duplex / 100, portfast enabled on the switch, should you also configure the XP workstations NIC card to Full Duplex / 100? Or can you leave the workstations in the default auto negociate mode?

Nope if you hardcode the switch to 100/full you must hardcode your nics to 100/full otherwise you will have a speed duplex mismatch which will cause all kinds of errors and slow performance . Rule of thumb is to match them on both sides , if it's auto on 1 side then the other side must be auto . A device that is set as auto can always sense the speed correctly but cannot sense duplex unless the other other side is auto also so it will always default itself to a half duplex state if the other side is hardcoded .

Thanks vipergg.
Sounds like manual settings wuld be an admin nightmare with 300 workstations ant 17 remote locations, all with switches to configure

Yes it would for the most part auto works pretty well on the switches and for any that appear to be getting errors then you could hardcode if need be .
