You are correct about the same subnet issue, but in tester125's case he is using different subnet masks, hence the network are not in the same network range (ie. e0 10.10.0.0/16 and T1 10.10.10.0/24)

You may not be able to ping your T1 if its in a down state. Also the router may not be able to get a reply if the IP is configured on the main T1 interface. You may have to configure sub-interface. Can you ping the T1 IP on the remote router? Vice-versa, on the remote router can you ping your local router T1 IP? Post your config so we can have a look.
