Hi,

I have a 2621 with no image. It boots to rommon and I am trying to upload the image and get this message:

ERR:Image size exceeds free flash space

When I do a dir flash: I see a config file in there I'd like to remove to give me the space to upload my image file. Real dumb question...How do I erase the config file sitting in flash so I can get my image loaded in there?

Thanks in advance.

Hello there,

There are two ways to address this issue;

1. When you are entering xmodem commands you will be prompted to erase the flash just say yes to that option

2. To me it looks like the image you are trying to load is bigger then the flash card regardless of having a confuration file in the falsh. You may need to load a smaller image and check the min memory requirements for flash and main memory for the image you are trying to upload.

3. If you must upload that image you may try to upload the image straight into the RAM. However, the downside is that on the next reload or power lost you will end up back into rommon mode ( use xmodem -r )

Cheers...

Thanks Tecnikall,

This is what's going on when I boot the router. Looks like I should have enough memory, though...

System Bootstrap, Version 12.1(3r)T2, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
Copyright (c) 2000 by cisco Systems, Inc.
C2600 platform with 32768 Kbytes of main memory

loadprog: bad file magic number: 0x0
boot: cannot load "flash:"

I've seen info searching online, but haven't found a definitive cure for the ailment yet. This began when I had succesfully reloaded the router with a config from another location. I went to save, it said it would erase all files in flash during the save, I said ok, then reloaded and bam, here we are.

Thanks again for your help.

I'm using the xmodem -r command as you recommended. So far, so good. will see how it goes. Thanks!

Hey Tecnikall

Thanks man. everything's good. I didn't have the right IOS image. got the correct one, xmodemed in and got it squared away.

Thanks agin for your advice.

Hello there,

I am happy to see that you are up and running. Next time try to save any configuration files into Nvram instead of Flash. This way, on reload router will always use the config from Nvram and the image from Flash... Cheers.
