Hi,I was running through the password recovery procedure on my Cisco 2611. I've done this a bunch of times since I always forget the passwords that I set. This particular time instead of using confreg 0x2102 to reset the router to boot from flash I accidentially typed confreg 0x2120 and reloaded the router. The router no longer comes up. I am attached to the console port and I get absolutely nothing....if I can get to the ROM monitor mode I could correct it but how can I get there when I get nothing when I turn on the router. Anyone have any suggestions..? Also where can I get a list of what all the different values for the confreg command do...?

Thanks for any assistance in advanced...!

Hi

If you look at you will see a table indicating what the particular bit settings mean in the config register.

Your current config reg is (bin) 00010101 00010100

bit 3 - specifies a netboot (filename)
bit 5 - NO MEANING !?!
bit 9 - NO MEANING !?!
bit 11 - Console Line speed
bit 13 - Boot Default ROM software if network boot fails

-- So what does this mean for you??

Well you may have altered the console speed (but this setting is in the high byte, and is normally set as you have) so you could try altering your console line speed, OR you may be seeing a timeout while the router tries to do a netboot (try waiting a while for the router to time out and then load default software), OR and this is the killer question - you've set some real whacky bits (5 & 9) and they're halting your load.

Try the above, if you're still having trouble - I'll look further into the meanings of bits 5 & 9.

Good Luck,
Phil. If everything is coming your way then you're in the wrong lane.

Phil,
You are the man..! Reading through the other posts in this forum I tried changing the console speed to 2400 and to 115200 but they didn't work so I sort of gave up on that option since the problem they were describing was different from mine. Reading your reply to my post sort of gave me reinforcement so I actually sat there and ran through each speed for the console and I got lucky on 19200. Your suggestion definately pointed me in the right direction, thank you...!!!

Glad I could help you get working Alex.

Cheers,
Phil.
