I am trying to configure 2 Cisco routers between the US and the UK. Simple router config for point-to-point use, using WIC DSU T1 V2 Serial Interface cards. Works fine in the US, but I cannot get them to talk to each other across the pond. It has been made mention that there might have to be a timeslot modification, but to what? Any info will be appreciated.
Thank you

in the UK side are you being delivered a T1 or E1?
the european standard is to use the 2mb E1's and you may need to iron out which 24 time slots the T1 channels are being delivered on..

The T1 has 24 Channels.. and the E1 has 30 cahnnels.

The delivered line is an E-1 on the UK side. I hate to ask the question, but do I need to have a different card on the UK router (other than a WIC-DSU-T1-V2)? If so, which card and how do I configure?
Thank you

all of my routers in europe have wic2t cards in them.. and the provider brings the CSU/DSU onsite.. so it is essentially a serial connection into the router and all the E1 stuff is broken down at the CSU external to the router...

if your doing the DSU T1 controller stuff in the router then i would assume you would need an E1 card. im pretty sure the T1 Wics can not do E1 signalling. So your interface wouldn't come up out there.

How does the telco terminate the line to you?

You will need a different module for the UK - VWIC-1MFT-E1 or VWIC-2MFT-E1.

There are some newer VWIC cards that support both E1 & T1 services as well but can't think of the part numbers off the top of my head.

Thanks for the help, please let me know if I will have to have the same E1 card on the US side?
Also, any suggestions on the config would help.
Thanks again.

you will be fine on the us side with the regular wic card...
the E1 in the UK will only be using 24 of the 30 channels (assuming your running full T1)

as far as config youll just need to set up the channelgroup

example

controller e1 0
framing esf
linecode b8zs
channel-group 0 timeslots 1-24

then youll see a serial0:1 will be created
in there you can just set it up like your T1

it will vary depending on the card you put in the router...
once it is in if you can't figure it out just post again and we can get it sorted.

Thanks again, I'll give this a go as soon as I can, and update.
Thanks for the help.

still no connection
framing and linecode do not have the correct options for esf & b8zs

E1 does not support B8ZS, the standard in the UK is AMI or HDB3.

What presentation have you got? in the UK you normally get a CSU/DSU or NTU from the provider (normally BT) you need a serial interfaces into the NTU. so normally you dont need to do anything special.

which provider has presented you a native E1? also I tried to get an E1 to talk back-to-back to a T1 card and couldnt get it working, we had to get a protocol converter due to the differences in line coding and FRAMING.

If you can get both to AMI this may work, also the Timing channel operates in a slightly different manner.

It looks like the issue was a loop left in by Telco. After the loop was removed and the circuit was normalized the connection came up.
Thanks to all for the help.
