Can anyone tell me if the WIC-1DSU-T1 V2 module will work in a 2611 router (I know it will work in a 2611XM).

I want to set up a serial connection between my 2611 and my 2611XM in my home lab, and I am not sure if that will work with a WIC-1DSU-T1 connecting via a crossover cable to a WIC-1DSU-T1 V2.

The WIC-1DSU-T1 V2 module has a feature that allows for cable connections shorter than 660', and I would like to use them on both routers for the serial connection.

Nope, a V2 wont work in a standard 2600. You can use 2 standard T1 CSU/DSU's and a T1 crossover cable of any length. I have some 2610's with WIC-1DSU-T1's connected with a 3ft T1 crossover cable

I also have a few 2620's connected with WIC-1DSU-T1's and about a 3 ft crossover (T1 crossover, not standard crossover).
Brian---what card is it that before the serial interfaces show up, the controllers must be configured with channel slots, line coding and framing?

So what I'm hearing is that I can use a standard WIC-1DSU-T1 on both the 2611 and the 2611XM, but I need to use a T1 crossover cable between them.

Hope this is not a dumb question, what is the difference between a T1 crossover cable and a Cat5 crossover cable? Does a T1 cable use conductors other than 1,2,3, and 6?

I appreciate your help. It would have been frustrating to purchase the V2 card and learn (the hard way) it doesn't work in the 2611.

Just noticed that the first link shows 1 being crossed with 5, and 2 being crossed with 4---THIS IS WRONG! 1 to 4, 2 to 5.

Yet another variant of the 8-conductor jack...

So once I obtain the WIC-1DSU-T1 modules and the T1 crossover cable, does any other router configuration need to be done other than to set clocking on one side of the serial connection?

I have set up a point-to-point WAN before over a T1, but it had external CSU/DSUs (and a 2500 series router).

No need to set clocking---just an IP address on each end.

Burt

Burt, you were right. I finally received two WIC-1DSU-T1 modules and installed them. The 2611 and 2611XM routers are now connected via a 10' T1 crossover cable. All I had to do was set an IP address on each Serial 0/0 interface, and the link came right up.
