I want to setup a Cisco 1924 switch in a small LAN that connects to a DSL modem. The modem is connected to port "B" but the light will not light up and in the administration area it says that there is no link-beat for this port? I guess this means that the modem is not sending out a signal? I do know that the modem works on a Netgear unmanaged switch.

Does anyone know how to get around this problem?

Thank you for any help you can provide!

Most likely your DSL port is not 100 meg , the 1924 "B" port is 100 meg only so this probably your problem .

The modem is 100Mbps. I have also tried the modem in other ports, both 10Mbps and 100Mbps.

What kind of cable do you use to connect modem to Cisco switch? I know nothing about your cable modem to say for sure what cable you need to connect, but I would say you need straight-through TP cable. Ports on Cisco switches are made "cross-over" directly. Also check the config of the switch if the port is not administratively shutdown - haven't worked with 19xx series switches in long time, so I am pasting Cisco link about port config:

Ports 1-24 can be 10/half or 10/full only . Ports "A" and "B" are 100 meg full or half i believe .

I thought that I heard of a way to setup the switch to provide the link-beat, is this possible?

I know the modem can work at 10 full/half 100 full/half and either RJ-45 or cross over.

I just need to be able to setup the switch to send the link-beat.
