Cisco 1700 - Recovering Erased Flash

Hi,

One of my collegue accidently erase the flash of his Cisco 1700 router. How do I recover it ? Can I recover it ?

Please correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Cisco have a workaround for that situation? I thought by booting up the router into ROMMON mode you can change the configuration register to have the router boot from ROM (with a skeleton IOS built into the router's ROM?) I know the IOS is on the ROM and it's called RXBOOT, and doesn't support routing or any advanced features, but I'm sure it's enough for a TFTP session via ethernet.

I know for a fact you can do that with the startup-configuration file but I also recall something of the nature of a skeleton IOS on the router.

You are wright That is called boot Flash and it is a subset of IOS but it is only on high end routers like 7200 not low end, so for the 1700 model there is realy no boot flash.
the best way to recover it is to use Xmodem in Rommon mode or even TFTP and download it.

the easiest thing to do is download a new image for the 1700 on cisco.com. this will take about 20 minutes.

I have used TFTP and has copied a a copy of Flash from one similar 1700 router. Same IOS ver. How do I use Xmodem for that ? I mean the commands. This is my first experience in trying to recover an erased flash.

Correct me if Im wrong, I know that TFTP wont work on this situation, unless I did what RAINMAN suggested and it work
