I'm pretty new to routers but have set links up between sites using Netopia and Netgear routers. However now have a 1601 router for a new 2Meg line but don't have a configuration table like the other routers, it just presents me with a prompt. I have a fast setup CD that I have used for the basics like router name and password router IP address etc. etc. But I would like to get to where it's really at using Telnet. Any ideas much appreciated.

Oh! by the way shed loads of Doc's on CD but will take me too long to decipher what I want, hence this help request.

Thanks

Not sure exactly what you're trying to set up, so I can't give you commands.

The ? is your biggest friend on a router/switch. If you're not sure what to do next, type "?" and you'll be given a list of commands available to you in that mode.

The ? can also help you complete a command. For example, if I want to change the DLCI assignment on a sub-interface on my router, but can't remember the exact command, "?" will tell me.

HQ(config-subif)#frame-relay ?

will show me eight arguments I have for the frame-relay command. Looking at the list, interface-dlci seems like the obvious choice.

HQ(config-subif)#frame-relay interface-dlci ?

tells me that next I need to enter a dlci number.

HQ(config-subif)#frame-relay interface-dlci 99 ?

shows me some encapsulation options I have, but also lists "<cr>", which means I could hit enter and the router has enough information to execute the command.

If you tell specifically what you're trying to accomplish, someone can give you the exact commands you need.
