All,
I'm just starting out in learning Cisco. I have a 1600 and am trying to set up a small network in my house. I have a server and two workstation and on notebook. I'm not really sure where to begin as far as setting up and configuring my Cisco 1600 into this equation. Can anyone help. Also I have cable internet connectivity. How would I go about setting this up. Any help at all would be appreciated.

Thank you.

What model of 1600 do you have, i.e. 1601, 1603, etc and what interfaces has it got [Ethernet, serial?]

I'm using a 1604 with a serial interface. Should I be using an Ethernet interface?

Thanks for the links. The internet was just a thought, but I'm more interested in integrating it into my home network.

Well, you can use the ethernet interface to connect to your home network. What I would do is get on ebay and get yourself a WIC-1T serial card and another router with serial interace, plus a DTC - DCE back to back cable to connect the two. You can then mimic a WAN connection.

Personally, I have 5 1600 routers, all with 2 serial interfaces, connected in a loop, which is great for learning routing protocols, etc...
