This switch was recently upgraded to 4.1 software to accomidate a caller i.d. card....but what is strange is it wont draw dial tone from the customer site..but if i bring it home it will draw dial tone....ive had the local carrier come out and check the lines but they are working correctly..ive changed all the hardware out including the ksu.....Any ideas?

Thanks.

check your loop current and line battery on the CO lines from the telco. either low or high loop current can cause some really oddball results.

also to verify that you have not lost some cable pairs or something equally inane set up on site and then select line 1, then use a butt set to draw dial tone and verify that you actually have the path into the CICS working.

finally try a different CID card.

Me and the carrier have been round and round with this....Ive also change the amphinols and blocks....

If they are global trunk cards, make sure they are set properly.

When in doubt RTFM (read the friggin manual)

Which slot did you install the clid card on? For lines 1-4 your card must be in the left most slot. If you left the lsds card on the system, and installed the clid card in the right hand slot, then make sure your CO's with caller id are terminated to the pairs corresponding to CO 25-28.

If you installed the card in the right hand slot, with no card on the left, then power down, move it to the left, and reprogram your lines 1-4.

Wow. That was long-winded. I guess I could have asked: Did you install the card in the correct slot on the KSU?

What happpens when you put the old trunk card back in?

No matter how I have the cards in slot 1 and 2 they do the same thing on all c.o. ports...another thing that is unsual, when an incoming call comes in i can answer it...but the party cant hear me but i can hear them...but when i put my test set on the lines it works fine....its crazy..lol

Hire a friendly co-vendor (or purchase/rent) that has the equipment to test the C.O. lines and check for what Jerry mentioned in his first post and first line. Never take the Telco's word for it, they are at leats 90% at fault for ALL line issues and are quick to blame the phone system and send out in experienced techs at times.

As for system if suspected here are some thoughts...

1. Do not use these cards on 4.1 for your testing:

NA DS Trunk Card (NT5B75GA/GB/GC)
NA CI Trunk Card (NT5B41GA/GB)

2. Enable then disable the cards
3. check card settings in Hardware settings programming.
4. Re-intstall system programming.

Hmm... Another thought- You could wire your ATA port to a CO port and call the analog extension to test the incoming ring. Pick up that line and you should get dial tone and be able to dial an on site extension.

What s/w level did you upgrade from? I remember an issue with upgrading from MICS 2 to MICS 4 where the upgrade shut down a bunch of DID cards on me. Nortel knew it was a problem and I had to change card types in 'hardware', move cards around, then change everything back again. Believe it or not, that worked.

is your handset cord plugged into the correct jack on the bottom of the phone?
