i have QDI KuDoz7 mainboard with AMD Athlon 1.4 GHz and two 256 MB DDRAM modules
when setting the fsb to 133MHz (JFSB jumper open) my machine is not stable - only dos is running well, i can't install any other os (win98, linux), it freezes already during install, i've used also a hdd with installed w98 system and i almost everytime got (windows protection error) when booting, or when it booted after moving the mouse, pushing a key on keyboard or just waiting for a short time it freezes with the blue screen of death or restarts
with the fsb set to 100MHz it runs perfecly
what's wrong with my computer?

Will that board handle a 266FSB? Nate Gagne

according to the qdi site and manual it should

Try this:

Set the bus to 100MHz. Load your OS and then install the chipset drivers that came with your board. Then reboot and set the bus to 133 and see what happens. What do you have for memory installed? Nate Gagne

Personally I'd replace the motherboard, get a quality brand name, Asus, MSI, Gigabyte, Abit, FIC, Epox... It may cost a few extra dollars, but it is so worth it, the headaches caused by inferior motherboards are just not worth the savings. You'd be surprised just how much better things work when you spend just a little bit more on the hardware.

Sorry dakota81, I have to disagree. QDI (Quantum Designs Inc.) are good motherboards, although not well known. They are NOT PC-Chips boards.

piti,
Are you trying to overclock a 1.4GHz/100MHz processor?
You know that AMD Athlons come in two varieties, 100/200MHz and 133/266MHz, don't you?

You can't overclock the 100/200MHz processors to 133/266MHz.

If you set the JFSB jumper to 100MHz the BIOS setup will give you the option of setting the FSB to 115MHz. This also overclocks the memory and PCI buses and still may not be stable.
See page 28 in the manual. Here is a direct quote:

Warning: Be sure your selection is right. CPU over speed will be dangerous! We will not be responsible for any damages caused.

If you have a 1.4GHz/266MHz FSB processor or you are overclocking, make sure you have PC2100/266MHz, not PC1600/200MHz, DDR memory. Overclocking PC1600 DDR memory usually doesn't work.

If I didn't understand or haven't answered your question, reply with more detail and I will try to help.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

John

well i'm not trying to overclock the cpu
i have athlon for 266 mhz and pc2100 ddr ram modules so it should be working, or not?
i bought all the hw to support the 266 fsb

btw:
ngagne's procedure is also not working

If you have the JFSB jumper set to 133MHz (open), the JFID jumper set to AUTOSET (closed), and the JVID jumper set to AUTOSET (open), and it doesn't identify the processor correctly, then you either need to update the BIOS or the motherboard is bad.

Older versions of this motherboard only support up to a 1.2GHz processor.
Download the latest BIOS update at:

Otherwise contact Technical Support for more info.

Contact the vender you purchased the board from before flashing the BIOS. They may not warranty it if something goes wrong while flashing the BIOS.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

John
