I am involved in evaluating converting a small system to use DCOM and MTS. Ive read the Introduction to COM book (good book) and have managed to understand most of it. I have had DCOM working on two NT workstations when they've both been logged on with the same UserID and I am now looking to get closer to the 'real' world situation of my workstation talking to an NT Server. I get the really helpful message of 'Access Denied' when I try to create an instance on the server via OLEVIEW. I know its probably due to NT Permissions and the like but I wondered if someone could compose a checklist to help me get to the root of the problem. I read a document on the web telling you how to configure DCOM but that spent more time concentrating on setting up DCOM95 than NT and I wasn't sure what to make of it. It seems to suggest enabling the guest account on the server and copying some files about which I wouldn't have thought was necessary.
Any help gratefully received.

P.S. Both WS and server have NT4.0 with the latest service packs

Make sure you run DCOMCNFG.EXE on the server to give your COM object permission to run on the NT Server. The default security settings on the NT server are for Administrator only....

Hope that helps!

Pat Gleason
gleason@megsinet.net
