Checkdisk won't run (it says it needs access to all windows files - try rebooting). Rebooting does nothing.

Also, occasionally (ie. once a week) Windows checks all drives for errors because they are "Drity" on startup? What does this mean?? How can I get checkdisk to run in Windows?

I suspect forum member GoatyGoat has some serious disk issues.

linney's recommendation to address them in Recovery Console would be the approach I would take personally.

chkdsk /r

In Recovery Console.

If this does not resolve the issue, then report back.

serious disk issues?? The HDD is only 2 months old and had no errors to begin with...and apart from the longer than normal bootup, the PC is perfectly fine. The reason I ask is because I realised I hadn't ran Checkdisk since the install, so I thought I ought to...

It is unusual to get the OS to set the dirty bit as often as you stated. In thread779-671256 you describe a slow bootup as a drive problem.
