changing Win XP pro product key

Am trying to change the product key, when I type regedit on RUN my prompt pops up and disappears. Is there a way out to use Run, because it seem I got to use it to get to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Current Version\WPAEvents

Navigate to windows directory - regedit is in there. Just double click on it and it will pop up.
