Guys

Currently we ghost laptop images using Norton Ghost, then use Ghost Walker to change the SID. This causes problems when upgrading IE as the Protected Storage section whinges and keeps asking for a password.

Does anyone know of a decent SID changer that runs in DOS? I know of NEWSID but I think that only runs in Windows and not in DOS

"It's true, its damn true!"

Ghost has its own SID changer - Ghostwalker. The Ghost disk should have the exe for you. As other Ghost apps, it runs in DOS.

If you click cancel to password prompt doesn't it just carry on without any other issues as if it never happened or are you seeing other issues?
MS offers this solution.

SYMPTOMS
========
After you use GhostWalker to deploy Windows NT Workstation, and you change the computer's security ID (SID), you may receive the following prompt every time you log on to a Web site where user information is stored (such as Microsoft Hotmail):

Protected Storage uses your Windows password to protect your personal data.
Protected Storage has detected data created with a previous version.
To continue to use this data, enter your Windows password below:

CAUSE
=====
This behavior can occur because the Access Control Lists (ACLs) on certain registry entries and files may not be reset by GhostWalker.

WORKAROUND
==========
To work around this problem, follow these steps:

1. Reset the protected storage ACLs. To do this:
a. Click Start, click Run, and then type "regedt32" (without the quotation marks).
b. Open the following registry setting:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System Provider
c. On the Security menu, click Permissions, click to select the "Replace Permissions on Existing Subkeys" check box, and then click OK.
d. Delete the "Protected Storage System Provider" key.

2. Rebuild the protected storage. To do this:
a. Open Internet Explorer, and then on the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
b. Click the Content tab and click Autocomplete.
c. Click to select the Clear Forms check box, and then click to select the Clear Passwords check box.

I too quickly scanned your post. We do use Ghostwalker to change SIDs in DOS after booting to DOS (we do not run Ghost or Ghostwalker in a DOS window).
