I've not got a RedHat 6.0 box here, but the setup is usually the same. Depending upon whether you are starting from a xdm (graphical login) session, or the command line, you need to alter either .xinitrc or .Xsession in your home directory.

Look for the line that contains something like "exec enlightenment" and change as required.

As to the timeout feature, I dont't think there is such a beast. What kind of problem are you talking about? Is X totally hanging? Is a program hanging, but the rest of X is OK?

If X is hanging, try hitting Ctrl-Alt-Backspace to crash out of X. If it's hanging regularly, you might want to consider chaning your window manager to something a little more resource friendly, like WindowMaker.
Hope this helps.
