Changing Long Distance Carrier

My system is a Merlin Legend R3 processor with 2 408 GS/LS modules, one 007 MLM voice mail with 2 voice mail ports.

When the system was first installed, all long distance calls were routed through a T1 for MCI. Well now the local telco has reduced their long distance per minute charge and offered a solution that beats MCI prices, plus I will not have to pay over $900.00 a month for their T1 connection.

My problem is: How do I remove the option to route all long distance to the T1 interface and will there be any connectivity problems?

Any help would be appreciated.

You did not show a T1 Card in your description?

Is there one?

You will need to have a POOL of Lines from the new vendor as the default choice for your LD.

IF there is no T1 Card, and your lines are coming in on the 2 408 cards, then just disconnect the MCI lines and put the NEW VENDOR's lines in those ports.

If there is a T1 card, the solution is a bit more complex.

Sorry, I do have a 100D 1DS1 trunk card which is connected to a Adtran T1 csu ace and from there to the MCI smartjack.

As long as you know which pool the T1 is assigned as and which pool the pots lines are assigned to, you can change the route under the ars table. Hopefully your pots lines are assigned to pool 70, because if they are not, you will have to do a bit more programming. as long as they are assigned to pool 70, use prompts: Sys prog, exit, tables, ars, sub-a pools, table 171 (also do the same for 181) and enter, it will then display which pool it is choosing. backspace out the current entry and change to 70 if it is not already 70 and then press next (this will show the back-up pool). If there is anything as the secondary pool, backspace that out and press enter. Do the same for table 181.

Telecomboy, while browsing the ARS section in the system programming reference manuals I came across notes that indicated table 17(long distance) was in pool 891 and table 18(local) was in pool 70. I will check this out sometime next week and let you know the results.

You will want to consider at least a couple more items, namely Station ARS Restrictions and the FRLs in ARS tables. A print out of DialPlan and ARS tables will be helpful in planning. There may be some customized routings assigned.

Thanks for all the help, another person who has left the company installed this switch and I get to try my hand at changing the switch.

I notice that everybody suggests printing out the configuration; well the person that left the company said he doesn't need print outs, so a printer was never installed. The only printer I have available is a HP DeskJet 697C, will it work or is there another type I should consider purchasing?

One last note, I have very little experience working with switches so any help is greatly appreciated.

If you are using WINSPM you can print the configuration to your computer by going to

SYSPROGRAM--->START--->MORE--->PRINT
