Hi,
Please help me with this.I wanted to change the IP address of the NT server that is also the DHCP server. Will this cause any problems.I would also like to how I can move all the serveices on one NT server( DHCP,DNS,WINS etc) to another server in the same domain. Will there be any conflicts if I keep these services on the existing server and also install these services on another server. Please explain in detail as I have never handled all this before. Thanks in advance

for DHCP, you want to be careful, because there could be tons of other computers getting address depend on the old IP address, so if you changed that without changing the clients first, you will be in trouble,

the same service with same addresses will certainly cause conflict

the most straightfoward way......... I would suggst you to write down all the TCP/IP network settings (DHCP, IP, WINS, DNS everything), basically you will be mirring all the setting to the new servver, then you need to take the old server down or unplugged from the network so the clients doesn;'t see two server with identical setting

Hi

Thanks for the reply. How do I mirror the services?. Also if it is possible to mirror the services onto another server exactly as it had been on the first server then is it enough that I disable the services on the first server.

just install the same services (DHCP, DNS, TCP etc) on the new server, and write down all the settings (every dialog box you can go into) from the old server, bring up the new server with the same settng but without plugged into the network so it won't casued the confict with the old server since you have every setting identical, apply the old server's setting to the new/unplugged server, and then when you reeady to switch, you can just unplugged the old server then plugged in the new server

He's gonna give the new server the same IP as the old one?

Won't the old IP still be leased to the old MAC address?
