Changing icons for files

Hi how do I change the icons for a file?

If you navigate to here you can change icon for any file type registered to XP.

Control Panel/ Folder Options/ File Types/ Advanced/ Change Icon

Funny,

I've done this and under the menu you've given me the extension has the right icon... but in explorer windows it comes up with the old icon.

Any ideas

Something to try, is downloading Windows XP TweakUI Powertoys from

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

install and launch TweakUI and select Repair -> Rebuild Icons. This will refresh the icon cache in Windows XP and hopefully allow your changes to take.

Just out of curiosity, what icon are you trying to change?
Are you having the same problem with any icon you change?

mp3 file from media player to a winamp icon.


I haven't been thorough enough to test with other icons, sorry should have probably done this.

It won't change because you have to change the default player.
