The only way I've ever heard of formatting part of a control's content is using an RTF control.
Goto Insert > ActiveX Control and scroll down to Microsoft's Rich Textbox Control. Don't have a clue as to the actual proceedures in using RTF, but the impression I've gotten in the past is that it's probbably out of proportion to the benefits!
