We have a problem with dynamic dns - we lost our password and login info. We have created a new account at dyndns.org but that means we now have a different dynamic dns name. We have changed the name info in the dynamic dns updater.

Now we are unable to ftp the server. Our FTP server is running on IIS. We can ftp the ip address within the lan. We cannot ftp the name or ip address outside the lan. When we ping the dynamic dns name, it transletes the ip address so we are sure that dynamic dns is working.

Is there anything in the IIS settings that needs to be changed because we changed the dynamic dns name? Were Stumped.

TIA

If you can't ftp by IP outside the LAN, then dynamic dns has nothing to do with it. I'd check your router settings, and ensure port forwarding (port 21) is set correctly.

yea sounds to me like either serbastic is right, or your firewall and/or router haev teh public domain name specified to map to an internal IP

most use IPs, so just an idea there

almost got a paragraph there :)

Thanks for the input but we still have the problem. Port 21 is forwarded to the ftp server. Neither the IP address nor the Dynamic DNS are able to ftp outside the network but we are able to ftp within the network.

Is there anything else that can be stopping it? I didnt set up the ftp server. Is it a possible ipsec setting?

We have a DSL modem that hands our router a private ip address (192.168.254.1). Is it possible that we have to log into the dsl modem and configure it to forward the ftp as well?

-TIA

its possible, but since you already have the other router set up...you can forward to your router and your router will forward to the other

either or should work...

depends on the DSL modem though

if you have ipsec policies...that is possible

do you have static IP for DSL modem?

The IP is not static. We have dynamic DNS to remedy that. We ping the dynamic dns name in order to determine the IP.
