Changing Default Media Player for IE

I've been trying to get some of my MP3's to stream over my website. I use the .m3u method, where you hyperlink to the .m3u file which provides the address of the MP3. However, when I'm at work and would like to listen to music (during coffee, of course), the website opens up RealPlayer as the media player and it won't work (because of an older version or something, and I don't have admin provlidges to update it). So I would like to have it open up Windows Media Player instead, to see if it works that way.
For the life of me though, I can't figure out how to change the default media player for IE.
I'm using Win Media Player version 8, RealPlayer 8 build 6.0.9, and Windows XP Pro.
Any help would be great!

Until you update your system, there is little you can do without unsatisfactory registry entries.

One aspect of Service Pack 1 for XP is that under Add/Remove Programs, Windows Components, you have a new applet to set Program Access and Defaults.

You need your Sysop to update the machines, including Service Pack 1, WMP 9, and the security hotfixes if missing.

If they are deliberately blocking the WMP upgrades, etc.. I think there is little you can do but to use third-party products, if possible under you lockdown constraints.

It is too comprehensive a change to do with registry edits. Look to the numerous third party efforts for music, many freeware.

It is decidedly non-trivial to attempt the Windows Media player installation outside of the Microsoft installer.
