I'm in the process of changing my administrator password, but I'd like to be sure nothing is relying on it before doing so. I've currently have 8 servers (7 member servers and 1 Windows 2003 Server domain controller) running. 2 of the machines are Windows 2000 Server, and the other 6 are Windows 2003 Server.

What I'm wondering is if any server roles depend on the administrator password for anything. I've currently got different member servers running Terminal server, File sever, Print server, DNS server, and application server. The domain controllers roles are File server, Domain Controller, DNS server, DHCP server, and WINS server. Will any of these roles get messed up if the administrator password is changed? Thanks in advance.

Check to make sure that you don't have any services running as the Domain Admin. If you do, then you should probably stop those services and change them to manual before changing the password. This way once you change the password you can type the password in before restarting the service. I have run into the issue where the service is on automatic and I forget to change the password, then the service hangs.

Looks like I've got 3 different services relying on the Administrator account on 3 different servers. MSSQLServer, SurfControl Web/Email Filter and Veritas Backup are all running with the Domain Admin account.

So you think it should be as easy as stopping these services, changing them to manual, updating the password, and restarting the services? Or am I missing something?

I did research the question before asking it here, and received numerous different options on changing the administrator password. I apologize for rsearching it further here.

Then setup a test environment.
