I have an account set as remote desktop user, when I created this account it included programs on that desktop that I dont want there and it wont let me remove them. My question is how do I configure what programs and icons this user can have.
Programs on the desktop when I created the account, are Outlook, two dialup shortcuts and a couple of other programs. When I look at explorer for that user it shows nothing in the startup of desktop. And when I use the remote login I see the same desktop as if I logged on locally.
The icons are probably being loaded from C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop
As the name suggest, removing a shortcut icon from this Desktop folder will also remove the icon from All Users desktops.
Yes, but I would like to limit what the remote user has access to. They only need access to quickbooks and thats it, if i loggin as that user it wont let customize the desktop as that user cant delete or add programs.
I think that is my problem, I am logged in as admin but cant seam to change that user's desktop settings, I did remove the icons from all users and placed them in another account and that took care of that. How can i set the start menu to show only quickbooks to the remote user, or stop them from accessing any programs from start menu.
Go into C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\startmenu and remove all the programs that you don't want the user to have access. Remember not to delete the short cuts. Move they too a temp folder. Then open the others users start menues and copy the short cuts there. ie you login is Me go to C:\documents and settings\Me\startmenu
The user account that I want to limit is lets say Al, I use windows explorer and go to c:\doc..\al\start menu\ and it is empty. if I logon as Al, if I hit start\run programs
all files on the pc are there. Are user accounts looking at all user folders to run programs?
When you go into c:\doc...\all users\start menu you will see all the programs listed there. Remove them and copy them to each user you want to have them.
FYI
Any new programs that you install will add an enrty to the all users start menu. If you do not want the remote user to access them you will have to repeat the process.
