Change Ringing Cadence of Attended Transfers 2

Dear All,

This is a repost of an older question that no one replied to, but I think I have more information to go on now.

I have some DECT cordless phones on a DMC8 card which show up as analogue extensions on our switch. If you directly call one of these handsets they ring fine, but if one of the attendants at the site receives an external call and then does an attended / announced transfer to the extension with a DECT phone on then the phone doesn't ring (but I see the caller ID on the display and can pick the call up).

I know with standard Digital handsets when an outside call is received on one extension and then transferred to another phone the person who is receiving the transfer will here an external ringing tone rather than the internal one. Is there any way that this behaviour can be changed?

Thanks for any help you can provide - I really appreciate it.

Phil.

Hi firebirdscrambler,

No, we don't have any standard analogue handsets - the switch doesn't have any analogue cards at all. The weird thing about these DECT phones is they are configured as analogue extensions (500's) from TN 7 00 onwards.

We're replacing some old DECT handsets which are falling apart but the new handsets we've bought have this annoying problem with no ringing on attended transfer calls. I'm sure this is because the switch is sending a different type of ringing notification which is confusing the handset.

Any suggestions?

Phil.

post the route that the external call is coming in on.. but that would ref the 1st reply.. another possible place to break that is ld 56.. print your tone and cadence tables to see if one of those is strange..

on a route, i can turn on drng from an external source. if those sets only rec external calls on a transfer, then it could be in your route, if not it's either ftc (ld 56) or a patch problem

Guys,

Thank you so much for your replies - I've been tearing my hair out with this for weeks and its great to have the advice of experts.

This installation has given us nothing but nightmares for the last 4 years. It was seriously botched by the original installers and to this day does some of the worst things ever. The main problem is that it is in a shop where the original C4050 handsets haven't stood up to the wear and tear of retail life. Most of the handsets are held together with sticky tape and 4 of the original 12 are completely dead (front and back have fallen apart).

We're trying to replace them with DeTeWe OpenPhone 27's which look exactly the same as the Nortel C4060's. The 4060's are very hard to get in the UK and DeTeWe inform us that they manufacture the OpenPhones themself so we figured that Nortel must have OEM'd them from another company (who may be DeTeWe).

johnpoole: I'm really sorry but I'm a bit lost with what you're asking for, but I'll check LD 56 tomorrow when I get to work.

firebirdscrambler: what's the best way of checking patches for the DECT system?

Oh, one more little bit of information. When you make an internal call to one of the original C4050 handsets the display on the handset briefly flashes "External" before showing the Caller ID of the caller.

Obviously this is wrong given that it is an internal call...

Hope this helps a bit,

Phil.

Yes, we have a maintenance contract with BT. I don't think they're going to help us though given that the original C4050 handsets work (kind of) so in their eyes everything is fine.

Phil.

firebirdscrambler,

How did you get hold of a newer patch that fixed your ringing problem??

Phil.

OK. I'm going to ask one of my colleagues about the 4060 phones. I don't have acces to "play" with one. It may be best to contact me off line, although it will be a few day's before I can get an answer for you.

Patch MPLR19478 that was causing the problem, with the patch removed DECT sets ring OK.
If you have an MDECT system and patch 19478 is fitted on a release 4 switch none of the MDECT handsets will ring, in fact they won't show ANY indication of an incoming call.

firebirdscrambler,

Thank you *SO* much. Words can't express how frustating this has been. So frustrating that I'm sitting here at 11:50pm on a Sunday evening trying to find an answer!!

My problem seems different than the one caused by MPLR19478. The handsets ring fine on internal calls its just on an external call that is transferred to the handset. Even then the display flashes and you can pick it up etc.

I'm certain this has something to do with the signalling the Meridian uses when it initiates the transfer to the DECT handset. For me as a tech guy (but not a Meridian Tech) I can imagine a dialogue like this between Switch / Phone

Internal Call

Meridian > I have an internal call for you
Dect > Cool, I'll make a nice beeping noise

Transferred call

Meridian > I have an external call for you that is being transferred to you
Dect > Wah??

Sorry for the dumbing down - but its got to this level of craziness!!

Regards,

Phil.
