I have a customer with an IPOffice, 9.1 Standard Edition with Analog Trunks. Is there a way to change the Incoming Caller ID Info to display something else? They have one specific number that they want to rename the CID to make it easier to recognize when they receive those calls.

The IP Office can do name matching using entries in its System Directory. Will replace the number with a name on most Avaya phones.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

You can use call tag as well by creating a new incoming call route with * as the Incoming number and incoming CLI would be the number the call is coming from. Then, under Tag put the text of what you want to receive to recognize that caller. I've never done this with POTS lines, but I don't see why it wouldn't work as it is looking for the Caller ID of the incoming call which is presented to the IPO.

Also if you want a specific number to show then your line provider should be able to do this as well if requested.

Is it an external number or part of the ICR? If you have a specific DID for say, tech, then you can tag that DID to say "TECH SUPPORT IN" or whatever you'd like. Any call coming into that DID will say that when ringing.

Thank you all for your replies. My original intent was to have the Carrier change the CID but it wasn't an option in this case. I chose to use the Call Tag solution and that seemed to work fine. One interesting thing about this; When that call rang on a 9608, the Line Appearance Button showed the Carrier CID, I would have though that the Tag would have changed it there too. The top line of the display showed the Calling number and the line below that showed the New Name that I Tagged to the line. So I think we're in good shape.

Dont use line appearances (Previous technicans et al)

Sometimes I wonder.
