I have a user that has 3 email addresses. He wants to be able to send from any of them by changeing the FROM line in Outlook, but it always denies the email no matter what email address we put in. How I can I allow him to do this?

You need to show the FROM field in outlook.

New message

VIEW

FROM FIELD

Then make sure he has "on behalf" permission on the three e-mail addresses. That should work.

Yes, the FROM field is visable.

Each email address is just an SMTP address for a single user.

Do I just add the same user in the 'delivery options - on behalf' for that user?

ie (
UserName : JohnD (John Doe)
Email addresses : smtp:johnd@domain.com
smtp:john.doe@domain.com
smtp:Jdoe@domain.com
in the Delivery - On Be half - just his user name?

If you mean the user has 3 addresses assigned to the SAME user mailbox, only the default will be used as the sending one. If that is the case, it will either not work the way you want, unless you create 3 SEPERATE mailboxes.

If 'something' 'somewhere' gives 'some' error, expect random guesses or no replies at all. Please specify details.

OK, I'm sorry I never followed up on this, but I think it was working.

But now my user is getting the following error.

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: email

Sent: 3/14/2005 9:45 AM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

Joshua James on 3/14/2005 9:44 AM

You do not have permission to send to this recipient. For assistance, contact your system administrator.

MSEXCH:MSExchangeIS:/DC=local/DC=northstarsurveying/DC=northstar:NORTHSERVER

Any Ideas?

Are you using 3 mailboxes now?

And did you check all permissions (and limitations on the destinee?)

yes, I'm using as many mailboxes as needed. I've got more than 3 now :).

The problem stems from 'hiding' the mailbox from the Exchange list. Exchange does not see the email address, so it assumes it's fake, and denies sending as it.

I've unchecked the HIDE in exhcange list, and now it seems to work. But it kind of uglies up the Global Address List. But it's worth it.
