Change /etc/security/limits without reboot

Hi folks,

I know this is an old one, but my first attempt to browse the older posts failed ...

So here we go again:

Is it possible to activate changes in /etc/security/limits without having to reboot the whole system ?

when you change globally in /etc/security/limits then users you modified limits for will have to re-login then the change will take effect.

check 'chsec' command - you can use it to modify /etc/security/limits instead of using an editor or chuser

of course if you want running application working with new limits you will have to restart it in new shell with new limits


the reboot is not required.
