We have a DNS server who's FQDN is ns1.companyA.com. Our company name recently changed as well as the domain name (now companyB.com). We have setup a zone file for companyB.com and believe we have entered all the necessary records. When we go to a registrar's web site and attempt to change the name servers from ns1.companyA.com to ns1.companyB.com, we consistantly are not allowed to do this. Is there something that i need to do to my existing DNS (BIND9) server to resolve this issue? Do I need to build a new DNS server for this new domain name?

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

The hostnames are registered (probably), so they are "records". It will let you change the IP of an existing host but not the name.

I would try this two step process:

Add new nameserver ns1.companyB.com with your duplicate IP (I don't think it checks). Then a few days later, delete ns1.companyA.com after you see the NS record properly declared. (Since it is the same IP, you should see no droppage or TTL problem)
