Chaging Right Click menus for Winrar files

You'll notice that if you have WinRar installed that when you right click a .rar, .r01-r** there's an "extract here" option. I want to have this same option for .001 files which are also compressed files.

I have searched the registry high and low including looking at the settings for .rar files and even WinRAR files but I can't find anything. I added a .001 key with the same settings as a .rar file.

I have opened up WinRAR and selected all file type association (integration) but there's no .001

I have also looked at file types in Windows Explorer and made sure that 001 files are the same as rar files.

Any help?

My guess is the naming is incorrect.

I checked a spanned rar archive on my computer and the files
are.
xxxxx.rar ( part one )
xxxxx.r01 ( part 2 )
xxxxx.r02 ( part 3 )
xxxxx.r03 ( part 4 )
xxxxx.r04 ( part 5 )
xxxxx.r05 ( part 6 )
xxxxx.r06 ( part 7 )
xxxxx.r07 ( part 8 )

I can rightclick any of the files
and the context meny offers to extract to: xxxxx

What happens in Winrar itself if you open the archive?

My concern is that you are looking at a rar'ed rar archive. You have to double un-rar to make any sense of the archive.

The individual xxxxx.rxx files make little sense by themselves in most cases.

The Gui for WinRar would make this process of undrestanding the individual file elements much clearer than the context menu "Extract Here"

thanks for your replies.

the naming is not incorrect and yes bcastner .001 to .0** can be a rared rar, however that's not my problem.

I guess for the sake of this exercise, I don't care what format the file is I simply want to change the right click menu of a .001, that's all I need and I know what to do from there.

I've only done a standard installation of winrar.
(not modified any file types ,registry etc.)

File assosiation in my system is
rar
r01
.
.
r29

Advanced settings is

Action=open
Application used to perform action="C:\Program Files\WinRAR\WinRAR.exe" "%1"
Use dde=yes
Application=Winrar
Topic=System

In case this helps to set the 001 file "open with" properties.

I wish I could be more sanguine, but Syar2003 offered the only possible solution: create a new file association for each .00x entry you might face.

You can of course do this in Explorer, Tools, File Types, but I note that you could more easily do it with the little used ASSOC command:

Assoc

Displays or modifies file name extension associations. Used without parameters, assoc displays a list of all the current file name extension associations.

Syntax
assoc [.ext[=[filetype]]]

Parameters
.ext
Specifies the file name extension.
filetype
Specifies the file type with which you want to associate the specified file name extension.
/?
Displays help at the command prompt.
Remarks
Use a white space after the equal sign to delete the file type association for a file name extension.
Use the ftype command to view current file types that have open command strings defined.
Use the > redirection operator to redirect the output of assoc to a text file.

Note: I was thinking you could do it quickly using a command line something like:

c:\>FOR /L %i IN (1,1,9) DO ASSOC .00%i=.rar

Hi,
Almost all of the .001, .002, etc. files I have seen are Splits from a bigger file...You need to Join them first..This should result in file you can use.
( For example,if file name(s) are something like mybigfile.rar.001, then joining them would give you a file called mybigfile.rar which can then be handled with WinRar)

Try a search for HJSPLIT some other Joiner/splitter utility.
