Help. (PC USER, newish to Quark)

I edit the Suzuki Owners Club Magazine in the UK and have a CFO problem I hope someone can help with.

My CFO process as it stands:

1. I use CFO to a new folder created on my C:\ drive. All is well and it works - all pics etc are present.
2. I use a CD burner app to copy the folder onto a CD.
3. I send it to the printer.
4. He opens the folder and has to manually update every picture location as it does not find all the pictures!
5. Printer calls me to complain of the 4 hours he spent locating the 120+ pictures.

Anyone help a muppet like me? Thanks in anticipation of the easy answer I haven't spotted!

Is the printer using an Apple Mac? (I know going from a PC to a MAC can course this)

There is a quick way to sort this as well, tell him to put all the pictures into the same folder as the QXD and it with find them straight away. If you can't fix it in 20 minutes call someone who can.

Sorry just another quick thought, when you burnt the images to CD did the burning software rename the images, course the file names where to long? If you can't fix it in 20 minutes call someone who can.

Thanks P20, I'll look into the renaming bit on the CD.
better still I'll rename the images to shorter names.

The best format to burn a CD is ISO 9660 (allow MAC names)or MAC - PC hybred. This will leave the names alone and a MAC and PCs can read them. If the printer put the CD in a MAC chances are the names were trunkated. Also look to see if the names are all CAPITALS. This too is a problem without used ISO 9660 (allow MAC names). Been there. Let freedom ring!

In addition to that thought: Press CTRL + Y look at Auto Picture Import. Make sure you change that to ON(Verify). Factory default is OFF. Whenever a file is open Quark will not look for any changes in graphics if this OFF. I constantly have to change customer files. Let freedom ring!

Hi again,
BIG BIG thanks to P20 for help.
I delivered this months mag to the printer on CD rom.
I renamed all the images with short filenames (<8 characters) and this worked!
Printer does use a MAC and it seemd that the truncating of filenames WAS the problem.
So thanks for all your help and saving me time and money!

Again, Thanks P20 , you're a star!

Well what can I say!!!!

That is what we are all trying to do here!!

Glad it worked! If you can't fix it in 20 minutes call someone who can.
