I have just started at a new client site and was wonmdering if there is an easier tool to manage McAfee clients than with ePolicy Orchestrator?
I am curious b/c i am not wanting to deploy policies but just want to view if clients successfully update and to push out updates manually if needed.
I have used Symantec corporate edition in the past so am looking for something with simliar functionality. The client site is running McAfee Visscan Enterprise version 8.

McAfee Protection Pilot is the slimmed down easier to configure version of ePolicy Orchestrator, meant for small businesses if thats what you have in mind.
Microsoft SMS also handles updates fairly well for McAfee Products, though it is pricier so avoid it unless your client has it.
Your client should be entitled to McAfee Installation designer if they have maintenance with McAfee, where you can configure the clients to point at a specific server to obtain their updates. Updating existing clients with the customization is easily done via batch file or log on script In the past with my clients who did not purchase a management portion, I usually made this a share where the clients can write there success or failure to.

hi,

Right now all of the clients get their updates from a central location on the network. They are using auto-update architect to get the signatures and place thme in a common location. The issue is that there is no way as an administrator to check to see if the clients are successfully getting these updates or not without having to look at the logs of each machine.
